We the Kings at Macy's Westfarms Mall CT

If you were a teenage girl this weekend in Connecticut, the place to be was Macy's at the Westfarms Mall in Farmington, CT to see a FREE LIVE CONCERT featuring We the Kings.

We the Kings are an "Indy" band out of Brandenton, Florida, that feature a pop-punk-rock sound. Their  debut album was released in 2007 and included their first platinum single Check Yes Juliet which went on to sell over 250,000 copies in the U.S.

Today Macy's was rockin'!  There were over 300 in attendance, and many had lined up as soon as the store opened.  Maddie, Danielle, and Stephanie, from Farmington High School in Farmington were the first to arrive at 9am and had been planning to attend ever since We the Kings  first tweeted out in early October that they were coming to the girls' hometown. .
The girls were the first to procure the wristbands that guaranteed them entry to the meet and greet autograph session immediately following the show.

The line stretched all around the store! It was unbelievable how many people attended!

We also visited with two teens, Kelsey and Brittany, who traveled up from Cheshire CT to attend the Macy's event

Kelsey and Brittany are sophomores at Cheshire High School and both girls could have been featured in a fashion shoot for any of the trend-setting brands that surrounded the Macy's stage for the concert.
Michael Kors, Calvin Klein, American Rag, Jessica Simpson, Guess, Jenni, Material Girl and more!

Macy's brings all the top designers on board - and many of them are featured in the mstylelab section of the Macy's Junior department.

We the Kings were just as current as Kelsey and Brittany, and dressed in the casual comfortable style also symbolic of mstylelab at Macy's.  Wool caps, knit jersey, worn jeans, flannel and plaid shirts, cotton tees, and cool sunglasses were worn by various members of the band.

The band started right on time (Macy's does things right!) and played for nearly an hour, the showstopper was their hit single Say You Like Me and the entire 300+ in attendance sang right along.

The band's sound is equally current. There was the perfect blend of music and banter with the audience, with lead singer Travis Clark joking that "members of the band were nerds in high school who started a band as a way to get girls" and "the passer-bys at Macy's are wondering why Shaun White is singing".

Here Kelsey and Brittany video some songs and take some pictures of We the Kings in action

After the concert the band arranged to stay to sign autographs for their faithful followers!

Both Kelsey and Brittany had a great time, and were happy to be a part of We the Kings concert and the Magic of Macy's!

Cash Mob at Something of Bev's in Milford CT

Each month the folks at REX Development, together with Cash Mob CT,  choose a town or city that is part of the 15 municipalities that make up the South Central Regional Council of Governments (SCRCOG) to descend on to be "Cash-Mobbed"

Cash Mobbing is simple!  Anyone can do it!  All you need is a twenty dollar bill, a destination, and the desire to help support local business!

Did you know that for every $20 that is spent at a local retailer, $13.60 will return to the community through taxes and payroll?  REX Development is doing their part to help local commerce and supports 15 towns and cities in Connecticut.  They need you to do your part too and support your local retailers!

Past winners have been RJ Julia Booksellers in Madison, Flutterby in Guilford, the Bethany Farm Market in Bethany, Sweet Cioccolata in Wallingford, and the Sweet Shoppe in East Haven, CT.

If you're lucky enough to live in one of the 15 municipalities covered by REX - look for a  Cash Mob CT to come to your town soon!

For the month of October, REX Development chose Milford CT, and the voters overwhelmingly selected Something of Bev's!

Something of Bev's  is located on the Boston Post Road in Milford, CT. Although they list themselves as a furniture and decorating store, Something of Bev's is all that...and so much more!

Owner Beverly Dennis has been in the retail business for 24 years! She is a long time Milford resident, moving to Milford, the Small Seaside City with a Big Heart, when she was two!

Bev is the consummate hostess, and her retail business is an extension of herself.  Today she opened up her store to welcome the Cash Mobbers with an assortment of coffee and beverages, and dips and treats to eat.

Bev, an elegant woman with eclectic taste, has a store that reflects her good eye for decorating.  Here you'll find antiques she's acquired from estate sales, and retail items from magazine and trade shows.  That's Bev, below, to the right.

When I mentioned to an old friend (who is also a Milford resident) that I would be at Something of Bev's, she quickly replied "I love that place!"

Here's some of the wonderful items that can be found in the store!
Holiday Tea Towels
Window Decor
These would look so good on my window sill at home!
Roomy Showrooms

In addition, Bev features items made from local craftsman and artists.
Made in Milford Mittens

Look at these lovely iridescent seashells.
Wouldn't they look beautiful on a seaside themed Christmas tree?

Shelley's Garden Center is located in Branford, CT on Main Street, just off I-95's exit 53.   You'll need to get yourself past the "pretzel" and then just look for the beautiful flowers and pumpkins out front!

John and Yvette Chambers are the second generation proprietors, and along with their children, Christiane and Taylor, own and operate the garden center and store.  Read more about the garden center's history  here: Shelley's Garden Center Branford, CT

Today when we stopped in Yvette was happily reminding everyone to recycle their garden pots!

Everyone at Shelley's is always helpful.  If you have any gardening questions stop by and ask!
