Half Moon Cafe and Grille in Wallingford CT

If you love trying new restaurants in quaint little areas then you'll love the Half Moon Cafe and Grille in Wallingford CT!

I first heard about this cute little place from my friend Mayra when we stopped there on the way to a benefit. I immediately fell in love with its comfortable setting and great food, and couldn't wait to return for more!

Last weekend, I had planned to eat at one of the participating Taste of Hartford restaurants on Sunday after the Hartford Home Show, but none of the places that both Gayle and I wanted to try were open on Sunday. Instead we opted to stop on our way home at Half Moon in Wallingford.

The Half Moon Cafe has an unusual set up, in that you actually order off a white board at the counter, but then a waitress brings your beverages and your dining selections over to you. It's a bit on the small size, but tables turn over quickly at busy times. Although they don't have a liquor or wine/beer license, I have heard that you are able to bring in your own wine.

The menu board is, of course, subject to change, but below is a sampling of selections that were available on  the day of our visit.

Gayle ordered the Pumpkin Ravioli with Cinnamon infused Cream Sauce.

Pumpkin Ravioli

It was so creamy rich and decadent. With just the perfect amount of seasoning without being over powering.

I ordered the Blackened Tuna Caesar Salad, exactly what I had ordered on my first visit with Mayra. That's how good it was the first time, and the second time didn't disappoint. I did order it medium rare, so if you like your tuna cooked thoroughly, please ask for it medium well to well done.

For my preferences, it was cooked beautifully, and the spicy blackened seasoning complimented the savory Caesar dressing, and the nutty shaved Parmesan cheese.

We passed on coffee, but did decide to have some gelato for dessert, and ordered creamy pistachio and pumpkin.

I thought the pumpkin was lacking a bit on the flavor profile, but that may have been from having just tried the very rich pumpkin ravioli. The pistachio, however, had a wonderful nutty flavor. Both were creamy rich and the perfect happy ending to a wonderful meal.

Here's some of the flavors that were available on the day of our visit, as well as a peek at other pastries and treats!

Remember, the place is a bit small but in a cozy fun way. On the day of our visit there was a large birthday party assembled, and because there is no carpeting to absorb sound, the place can get a little noisy. Again, in a fun way, not obtrusive at all.

If you go, please ask before bringing any alcohol in. And enjoy this fun place!

Wallingford center has a cute little downtown area with some cute boutiques and shopping available. There is a parking arcade in front of the restaurant.
