Parallel Post in Trumbull CT announces their 2015 Farm to Trumbull Series

JAMES BEARD-NOMINATED CHEF DEAN JAMES MAX
ANNOUNCES 2015 “FARM-TO-TRUMBULL” DATES

Parallel Post’s 3rd Annual Interactive Dining Series Kicks-Off Thursday, June 25 Featuring an Exclusive Author Book Signing Event
to Celebrate the Locally Anticipated Launch of The Connecticut Farm Table Cookbook

Parallel Post announces the return of its 3rd annual three-part culinary dining series, Farm-To-Trumbull, rolling out on Thursday, June 25 at 7:00 p.m.  Inspired by the season, the event was designed to provide an intimate experience for 30 guests led by James Beard-nominated chef Dean James Max, Executive Chef Chris Molyneux, and newly appointed Chef de Cuisine Erik Waybright.

As part of this year’s exciting kick-off event, Parallel Post is thrilled to announce their partnership with local Connecticut-based authors Tracey Medeiros and Christy Colasurdo, who will be available for a meet and greet and book signing, to honor their official national book launch of The Connecticut Farm Table Cookbook. Featuring Parallel Post and Chef Dean James Max’s famous Homemade Pasta with Norman Bloom Connecticut Lobster, The Connecticut Farm Table Cookbook is much more than a regional cookbook packed with 150 recipes from the area’s top chefs and local farmers. It's a window into the world of Connecticut’s local farm-to-table movement, brought to life through vivid farmer and chef profiles, regional lore, and stunning photographs.

For $110 per person (including tax and gratuity), guests can whet their palate with welcome cocktails sponsored by the locally-renowned Fishers Island Lemonade; sampling of small bites; a family-style dinner ripe with the season’s finest local ingredients; wine pairings presented by their resident mixologist Greg Genias aka “BootlegGreg;” an all-you-can-indulge dessert bar; and a personally autographed copy of The Connecticut Farm Table Cookbook. For couples seeking an exclusive dinner package including the dinner and one personally autographed copy of the cookbook, the ticket will be priced $200 per couple (including tax and gratuity).

The menus for the series - much like Parallel Post’s weekly-changing restaurant menu – focuses on localism, following the philosophy that natural and sustainable products, and responsible farming, are the key components in ingredient selection.  The menu will be inspired by the farms’ fresh offerings of the day and as such, patrons will be invited to embrace their adventurous side with the Farm-to-Trumbull menu being revealed that evening including dishes infused with the refreshing spirits of Fishers Island Lemonade.

Parallel Post believes in strengthening the farming community and engages local purveyors for a majority of its ingredients – seafood from Norm Bloom & Sons in Norwalk, Conn. and Foley Fish in Boston, Mass.; meats from Ox Hollow Farm in Roxbury, Conn.; dairy products (including cheese, milk and ice cream) from Farmer’s Cow in Lebanon, Conn.; and greens from Gilbertie’s Herb Gardens in Westport, Conn.

Dates for Parallel Post’s Farm-to-Trumbull 30-person dinner series include:

Thursday, June 25,
Sunday, August 9 AT GILBERTIE'S HERB FARM in EASTON CT,
Thursday, October 29.

Tickets to the 3rd annual Farm-to-Trumbull dinners are available for advance purchase at $110 per person or $200 per couple. To RSVP for the June 25 dinner, please e-mail our partner Fairfield U Bookstore at FairfieldUBookstoreEvents@gmail.com or call Nancy Quinn at Fairfield U Bookstore at 203.255.7756 ext. 501.  For guests seeking to purchase additional copies of The Connecticut Farm Table Cookbook that evening, representatives from Fairfield U Bookstores will be available on-site at Parallel Post.

That's Amore! - Amore Cucina and Bar in Stamford CT

Social Media Promotion

We finally had the chance to travel to Stamford CT for a promotional sampling at Amore Cucina and Bar!

Of course, we started with some cocktails at the bar, and I selected a Lemon Drop Martini with a bright citrus flavor to cleanse the palette and start the evening off right!

We hit the ground running and started right in on some of the delicious pizzas that Amore is well known for. The super hot oven cooks pizzas quick - reportedly in 90 seconds! Chef Bruno DiFabio joined us for a few minutes while me munched on freshly toasted bread with marinara and pizza and explained his connection to the restaurant, his award winning pizza skills, and the special yeast that hosts each pizza that is made.

Chef DiFabio is a six-time world pizza champion! For more on Chef DiFabio read HERE

Above: The cowboy gets some pizza tips from Chef DiFabio

The cowboy loved the bread, and especially the sauce. I swear he has tomato gravy running through his veins sometimes!

But Amore is so much more than pizza! Here's some of the other items we sampled

A beautiful creamy risotto. Why doesn't mine every come out like this?!

Amore Risotto

This Chicken Scallopino was delicious.

Amore Chicken Scallopino

My absolute favorite of the night - the white clam pasta!

Amore Pasta with Clam Sauce

And, I was so happy to see Chef Jared Falco is now at Amore! His personal touch is apparent and when I commented on the underlying heat of one of the dishes he went and gathered the peppers that were used in the dish so I could see them.

This pasta with pecorino cheese was AMAZING!

And we finished the night with some delicious desserts. Tomato Jam Waffles and fried oreos with cereal milk. What sweet surprises await you at Amore Ristorante?

Make sure you visit Amore soon - I know you'll love it!

Clinton Crossing Premium Outlets for Spring Trends

Clinton Crossing Spring Fashion

Clinton Crossing Outlet Center - Worth the trip from anywhere!

This spring we headed out to Clinton Crossing, an outlet center located just off I-95 at exit 63 in picturesque Clinton CT, for an early evening of shopping with some local CT Fashion and Lifestyle Bloggers, Wendy from CT Lifestyles, Rosa from Lady Diana Pearls, and others.  Because I had another event to attend that evening I started off on my shopping jaunt ahead of them, but you can follow their experiences by clicking on their names and enjoying their group shopping fun!

Saks Fifth Avenue - Off Fifth

We started off at Saks Off Fifth where we learned that the store has undergone a revamping with more competitive pricing. I've always loved to shop at Saks Off Fifth, so better prices means more shopping!

Saks Fifth Avenue - Off Fifth at Clinton Crossing Premium Outlets

Of course, I wandered right to the shoe section where I always have great luck and spotted these metallic cork wedges that will work perfectly as a neutral with so many outfits this summer. I'm also on the lookout for a spring hat, and although I didn't purchase this one, it's a perfect match for denims or nautical prints.

Lancome

Then I moved on to the Lancome store. I could have stayed all day in this store! The sales associates were so helpful and I loved seeing them work on a "make up mood board" featuring spring makeup trends. So good to hear that spring and summer will feature a "natural" palette of colors.

Lancome at Clinton Crossing Premium Outlets

Club Monaco

Our next stop was Club Monaco where I put together an outfit featuring the 2015 trend of retro fashion, featuring looks from the 70's like wide legged trousers, peasant style white eyelet tops and natural fiber accessories. How about those striped jeans? Love them!

Club Monaco a Clinton Crossing Premium Outlets

DKNY

Then we descended on DKNY, probably the funnest stop of the day, where store manager Bill was UBER helpful and we had a ton of laughs and fashion lessons!  We learned all about the DKNY staple, the cosey that works as a sweater, or a wrap and has dozens of uses! And I put together another fun outfit accenting the pops of color that are so prevalent this spring. Love this bag and top in deep cobalt blue.

DKNY at Clinton Crossing Premium Outlets

Here's where I made my favorite purchase of the day, the DKNY bag that holds everything! And here I am rocking it at Mother's Day Brunch!

Lindt Chocolate

Our next stop was at the Lindt Chocolate store for a hot cocoa pick me up and some chocolate goodness!

Hanna Andersson

My last stop before I had to leave was at the ADORABLE children's store Hanna Andersson whose Swedish influences were apparent in the clothing. Here's a few little girl's outfits I couldn't help but play dress-up with!

Hanna Andersson at Clinton Crossing Preimium Outlets

Other stores that participated were J Crew and Aeropostle where more great fashion and spring trends can be found!

Clinton Crossing Premium Outlet Center in Clinton CT is certainly worth the trip from anywhere! It's easily accessed off exit 63 on I-95 and includes over 70 designer retail outlets. There's something for everyone at Clinton Crossing!

Harvest Wine Bar in New Haven CT for NHRW Spring 2015

Media Promotion

For New Haven's Restaurant Week Spring 2015 we headed out to Harvest Wine Bar on Chapel Street in the Elm City!

I love restaurant weeks! Three course dinners for only $32.00 is a win-win in my book!

What was especially nice about Harvest's offerings were the wide variety of offerings to choose from!  Each of the three courses that were offered had at least five or more selections to  select.

The cowboy and I were able to join friends Wendy and Greg from CTLifestyles.com for a night out on the town. After settling in with cocktails (I ordered the Flirtini pictured above) we started with our first course of appetizers.

Appetizers
Grilled Calamari crispy fried tentacles, jalapenos, cilantro, whipped avocado (L)
Macaroni and Cheesecavatelli, cabot white cheddar, toasted bread crumbs (top right)
Crispy Artichoke Salad lemon aioli, jalapenos, cilantro, red onions, ricotta salata (R middle)
Shaved Brussels Sprout Salad parmesan risotto cake, truffle vinaigrett (bottom right)

Each appetizer was so good! My calamari with the whipped avocado tempered the heat from the jalapenos and was cooked to perfection!

For dinner we had everything from seafood to steak to burgers!

For my selection (see below) I ordered this AMAZING Hangar Steak served with Parmesan Truffle Fries, Seared Asparagus, and a Green Peppercorn Sauce.

The Harvest Hangar Steak
Yup! Every bit as scrumptious as it looks!

Moving on to our final dessert course (somehow we found room!) we went for a little of the sweet stuff in a big way! The cowboy and I both went with the flourless brownie sundae and Wendy and Greg went with the Nutella Crepe and Blood Orange Sorbet.

Desserts at Harvest Wine Bar
Flourless Brownie Sundae (L)
Nutella Crepe (Top Right)
Blood Orange Sorbet (Bottom Right)

While waiting for coffee I surveyed the roomy restaurant and adjoining cocktail lounge.

And I love the open concept kitchen where you can get a peek at ALL the delicious food!

We all loved Harvest Wine Bar and can't wait to return this summer to enjoy the patio and some more great food!

The tent will open at noon, followed by a chef demonstration of cutlery and cookware of J.A. Henckels International at 12:30 p.m.

The master chef cooking demonstrations will focus on a range of cuisines including Latin-American, contemporary American, farm-to-table, and gourmet pizza. The chefs will work their culinary magic on a stage with a full demo kitchen provided by Thermador as they teach the audience their techniques and provide samples of their unique dishes after each demonstration.

3:00 p.m. - Leslie Lampert, Café of Love, Mount Kisco

4:00 p.m. - Bruno DiFabio, Amore Cucina, Scarsdale (Recently judged on Chopped)

A look at the chefs:

Chef Rafael Palomino draws from his childhood in Bogotá, Colombia, his younger years in New York City—alongside such culinary legends as Larry Forgione and Charlie Palmer—as well as his time in France, with Michel Guèrard in Eugènie-les-Bains. Palomino takes part in running all of his many restaurants, including Sonora in Port Chester.

He also teaches cooking classes and has published five cookbooks (so far!) They are: Bistro Latino, Viva la Vida, Nueva Salsa, Fiesta Latina and Latin Grill!

Chef Peter Kelly’s contemporary American cuisine has been delighting diners in the Hudson Valley for more than three decades. His restaurants bring dining to a new level by providing his guests with exquisite food and superb service. In 1983, at the age of 23, this self-taught chef opened Xaviars in Garrison and began his journey to success. Kelly owns four of the most acclaimed restaurants in New York State: Xaviars at Piermont, The Freelance Café & Wine Bar, Restaurant X & The Bully Boy Bar in Congers and X20 Xaviars on the Hudson in Yonkers. They have all received popular praise and the industry’s most coveted awards including The New York Times highest rating (Extraordinary), The Mobil Travel Guide Four Star Award, The Dirona Award, Restaurant News Dining Hall of Fame, Wine Spectator’s Best of Award of Excellence, Zagat’s Survey (29 out of 30) and New York State Restaurateur of The Year in 1998.

Her 11-year-old, award-winning, locally sourced take-out shop, Ladle of Love, inspired the launch of Cafe of Love in 2008. The Cafe's farm-to-table philosophy supports local growers and farmers and features the freshest ingredients from the season's bounty.
