Upcoming events at Lord & Taylor in Stamford Connecticut 

To celebrate their major renovation in the Stamford CT location of Lord & Taylor the store is holding a series of events to precede and promote their grand opening!

That's right - Lord & Taylor is in the final stages of its massive renovation to the company’s Stamford store, one of the company's earliest branch locations. The renovation, which began in early 2015, touches all three levels of the store and is being designed to have a more intuitive flow, new finishes, and upgraded services, as well as new brands added to this location. 

As the building façade’s banners state, “Nothing Stands in the Way of Fashion”. It’s been business as usual throughout the renovation process with some slight in-store traffic re-routing and creative planning. In anticipation of the official grand opening of Lord & Taylor Stamford, which will kick off the holiday season in stylish form, shoppers can look forward to a series of in-store and community driven events this fall at the 110 High Ridge Road location.

Back to Campus Fashion Event - Saturday, September 17, 12-5 PM

On Saturday, September 17, from 12-5 PM, Lord & Taylor will host a Back to Campus Fashion Event, highlighting the fall season’s latest styles for fashion-savvy young adults and those looking to head back to campus with a fresh new look. Event highlights include a fashion presentation, cosmetic makeovers and enter-to-win opportunities.

The Exhibition features costumes created by the film industry's greatest designers. Costume wizards like Adrian at MGM gave Greta Garbo. Jean Harlow, Joan Crawford, Norma Shearer, Jennette McDonald, Lana Turner, Hedy Lemarr and others their "look". Other famous designers include Edith Head, Givency, Irene, Trvis Banton, Helen Rose, Halston, CecilBeaton, Gene London, and many more.
       

The History of Fashion

On display on the 2nd Floor At "The Fashion Runway To Boscov's" Located at the Mall Entrance the  is on display life size mannequins modeling clothing from the 1870's to the 1920's. The world class collection was assembled by Gene London. Gene will personally guide you on this journey through the history of fashion. In addition, he will also present a formal runway show featuring gowns from his collection.

Most kids who grew up in the Philadelphia area in the 1960's and 1970's fondly remember Gene London's "Cartoon Corners General Store"  which aired in Philadelphia from 1958 to 1977. Gene was producer, director, writer and star of his award winning show. Famous stars of stage and screen such as Lucille Ball, Kirk Douglas, Myrna Loy and Mary Tyler Moore would often make gust appearances.

After his show ended in 1977, London became a fashion designer in New York City. He also started collecting vintage costumes and gowns worn by famous celebrities. Over the years, London accumulated over,vintage gowns and accessories worn by legendary actresses such as Joan Crawford and Grace Kelly.  London has designed costumes for movies, Broadway, television and celebrity clients.                

Fashion Week Paris Spring-Summer 2015 - Jean-Charles de Castelbajac

Jean Charles de Castelbajac recently launched his Spring Summer 2015 collection at Paris Fashion Week.

The collection offered the world an invitation to discover the vision of JC de Castelbajac: collective, inventive and creative.

This collection is a spectacle, a rupture that puts today’s woman front and center, dressed in a look that sublimates her beauty and transports us elsewhere. A new cosmic and urban wardrobe is born. A proximity to the audience who interact and discover the pieces they see pass before their eyes.


This season prints disappear, replaced by new imagination and detail crystallized in cut. Graphics are illustrated with tone-on-tone cut-outs of stars, messages and symbolic portraits, bringing new poetry to the clothes. The designer’s essential signature color blocks take pride of place. Screen pockets and omnipresent visors, oversize bags in leather and Plexiglas, and technical Velcro sandals enchant this new sport-chic silhouette, to give this commando of women a protection, a contemporary confidence.

Materials are light and sporty in completely Castelbajac colors; yellow, blue and red primaries like rays of sunlight, a tonal orange, all underlined by an ultra-pure white.

Cotton twill and viscose, airy and technical, are mixed accidentally with silk organza for shorts, jumpsuits, bustier dresses and sweatshirts. A pop camouflage is incrusted on retro-futuristic trench-coats and dresses while XXL trompe-l’oeil stitching decorates a raw cotton toile.

These new nomads wear their jackets slung over their shoulders like backpacks. Knits in camouflage lace or cotton net complete the collection with a transparent sweater and raincoat, a purity filter.

This is the signature of a new femininity: comfortable, functional and creative sportswear for tomorrow’s all-conquering woman, the soldier of peace of  the future.

Makeup, Hair, and More from Rachel Zoe's Spring Summer 2014 Collection

For my inaugural Fashion Friday post, we're featuring the fabulous stylish turned designer Rachel Zoe, whose Spring Summer 2014 collection featured easy wearable clothes, with models sporting a fresh and natural look, perfect for every age and body type.

Rachel Zoe's stylist background comes through at each of her design shows. No where is it more apparent than in the holistic style of the entire show, from hair - to makeup - to accessories.

Rachel Zoe wowed the crowd during her Spring/Summer 2014 show highlighting easy breezy casual styles. 

Aside from the beautiful pieces of clothing that came down the runway was equally beautiful cosmetic work done on the models. Each model wore thick braids made from pieces of loose hair and some pieces of hair that had already braided into fishtail braids.

The braids were kept very loose and textured looking almost dry and frizzy. Thin pieces of hair were pulled out from the front to give a messy, rushed hair look. 

Eyebrows were kept thick while on the eye was a tan toned metallic eye shadow thinly placed right on the eye lid, not passing the crease. Lips ranged from muted colors like pink, reds, and orange all in a satin finish. Eyeliner in a light brown was used along the lower lash line.

Brushed eye brows for natural looking brows. Maybelline’s Dream Fresh BB Cream for fresh honey toned skin. Maybelline’s Color Tattoo on the lid up towards the brow bone. A healthy flesh on the face, with bronzer and blush and mascara placed on top and bottom lashes. Maybelline’s Totally Toffee and Red Rebel lipstick mixed for lip color with no rough edges.


Antonio Corral Calero, lead hairstylist, on about the hair look:
The look is inspired by a girl in a safari; she may not be able to wash her hair for a couple days. There’s a lot of texture, a lot of braids. We pull some pieces out that fly away. It’s about simplicity and feeling hot. We have seen a lot of braids and ponytails, tons of variations of ponytails. Anything goes, it’s all about how you interpret beauty. We’re at a time of our lives were it’s about personality and adapting style to your own personality.

Sunshine Outing, lead manicurist, on about the look:
We went with a white blended with a nude. Maybelline’s Color Show Lust for Buff and Porcelain Party were mixed together. For summer trends, half moon manicures, are big. Nail art is still huge; expectations are getting bigger and bigger.
