Westfield Trumbull to Host Uncorked”
Wine and Beer Tasting Event
to Support Local Charity on October 7

Local shopping mall’s ‘sip-and-shop’ event
will benefit The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp

Save the date! Westfield Trumbull is hosting its very first Uncorked event on Saturday, October 7, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The ‘sip-and-shop’ experience invites shoppers to purchase a bracelet that will give them access to wine and beer tastings from local wineries and breweries as well as light refreshments, and shopping perks at participating retail locations. Westfield Trumbull is located at 5065 Main Street in Trumbull, Conn.

The event was organized to benefit The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp.  All ticket sales for the Uncorked event will be donated to The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp to help provide funds for the more than 20,000 seriously ill children and family members the organization serves annually.

“Support from community partners like Westfield Trumbull is so important in helping Hole in the Wall bring our year-round programs to the seriously ill children and families we serve,” said Andrea Keefe, manager, peer-to-peer programs at The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp. “We are grateful to be the charity beneficiary of ‘Uncorked’ and are excited about the many stores, restaurants and others who are sharing their hearts with Camp for the event.”

Participating retail stores within Westfield Trumbull include: Banana Republic, Brookstone, Denali, Gift-ology, J. Jill, Lord & Taylor, Michaels Jewelers, Pandora, Sephora, Solstice, and Soma. During the Uncorked event, bracelet holders will enjoy light appetizers and a tasting of wine and/or beer from local wineries and breweries like Two Roads Brewing Company(Stratford, Conn.) and Jonathan Edwards Winery(North Stonington, Conn.). Additional wine and beer tasting will be facilitated by Lifted Spirits Bar Concierge & Staffing. To add to the experience, select retailers are offering Uncorked participants special deals and promotions including chances to win gift cards and free merchandise at J. Jill, Solstice Sunglasses, and Soma, and 20% off at Denali and Brookstone.

“At Westfield we are passionate about the important philanthropic work we do in the many communities we serve, both on a local basis and across the nation,” said Katherine Bolas, Westfield Trumbull’s Marketing Director. “Supporting causes that focus on children’s health, wellness and education is particularly important to us and to our customers, and so through this first-ever Uncorked event, we hope the Trumbull community comes together to enjoy a unique shopping experience while supporting The Hole in the Wall Gang.”

Westfield Trumbull urges participants to enjoy the event responsibly and has teamed up with Uber to provide a safe transportation option. Using the promo code WESTFIELD, new Uber users will get their first ride free (up to $15).

Shop and Nosh at the Cafe at Middlebury Consignment

Social Media Promotion: Sponsored

Cooking Class at the Cafe at Middlebury Consignment

If you follow my blog even semi-regularly,

you know there are two things that I absolutely love to do

SHOP and NOSH!

The Cafe at Middlebury Consignment Cooking Class

And now I've found a way to roll my two very favorite things to do into ONE, by taking part in a cooking class held at The Cafe at Middlebury Consignment! When an invite rolled into my inbox to visit the Middlebury Consignment Store, needless to say, I was thrilled!

I was familiar with the store through some television advertisements, and several friends have visited on a "destination day' to shop Middlebury, but until now, I've never had the opportunity to visit Middlebury Consignment for myself.

Opening in 2009, Middlebury Consignment is a one stop shopping store for all your home design needs. Not your typical 'consignment' store - Middlebury Consignment mixes a bit of  upscale consignment pieces with new design furniture and fixtures.

The Cafe at Middlebury Consignment

I spotted pieces from Lillian August, Howard Miller, Barkman, and more! The original store has since expanded to three buildings, the second two dubbed "the annex" located a few miles down the road. In addition, full design and decorating services are offered, as well as culinary accessories, tools, and utensils.

The Cafe at Middlebury Consignment - Culinary Utensils

But on this visit we primarily spent time in the kitchen of the Cafe at Middlebury Consignment, taking part in one of their popular cooking classes. This particular class featured the preparation of appetizers, but they offer a wide and varied range of classes! A quick glance at their cooking class events lists dates that feature Cowboys and Campfires (Aug 6. 2017) Trip to Morocco (Aug 16, 2017) A Tuscan Grigliata (Aug 27, 2017)  End of Summer Tapas Party (Aug 30, 2017) Provence Inspired Steakhouse (Sept 7, 2017) and many, many more in the months to come.

Check out their event calendar at https://www.middleburyconsignment.com/cooking-events/

We started with a nice glass of wine and some cheese and crackers. Our cooking group consisted of a wide range of Connecticut social influencers invited to experience the fun of an 'appetizer' based cooking class led by The Cafe's own Chef Mary Kravec.

In attendance were Natalie from New England Foodie,  Brittny from Basic Britny, Hannah from Sometimes Social, Amanda from the Amanda Bella, Christine from Vigora and Vogue, Nonee from Nonee's World, and Yinka from Yours Truly Yinka and Linked Media.  (If I missed anyone - let me know and I'll link back to you too!)

Visit them all in the days to come for their details of this fun event!

We jumped right in and donned our aprons and Chef Mary would rotate around the kitchen island recruiting the nearest participant to prep that particular portion of the meal. By the end of the cooking class everyone had some "hands on" experience and she included lots of great tips for food prep like how to use a spoon to peel ginger, blanching the broccoli rabe with salty water to draw out the bitterness and retain the crisp green color, and so many more!

Here are some photos of our food preparation:

While everything cooked up in the oven
we had a wonderful tour of the store!

Yassss!

I'm definitely making a return trip just to shop!

When we finished touring the multiple floors of furniture and home decor we returned to feast on the fruits of our labor!

I think I can speak for everyone and say we ALL thought the cooking class was a wonderful experience! We each felt like we had a part in the preparation and we certainly walked away with some great tips! I've already replicated the roasted grapes into a chicken dish I prepared this weekend with the same great results. DELICIOUS!

If you haven't already, visit Middlebury Consignment and treat yourself to one of their upcoming cooking classes!  You'll be glad you did!

Social Media Promotion

Shop and Nosh at the West Hartford Holiday Stroll

There's nothing quite like finding new places that offer fabulous food that are just steps away from great shopping, right?! Now add a celebratory and festive atmosphere to the mix - and you have the annual West Hartford Holiday Stroll!  When Kat from A Little Bird Told Me PR firm reached out to me about attending this hosted event, I couldn't wait to find out more about what this whole Holiday Stroll was about - and have another opportunity to Shop and Nosh!

West Hartford Holiday Stroll

It turns out that on the first Thursday of December the West Hartford downtown area rolls out an amazing Holiday Stroll. The event is complete with horse drawn carriage rides, local school carolers and street entertainment that included a flashmob style dance! Local merchants throughout the downtown area are open with all sorts of specials - and the atmosphere is fun, festive, and most importantly, family friendly!

We started at Max Burger where our media group was treated to a wide array of small plates and appetizers, and of course, a few cocktails!  Max Burger is located at 124 LaSalle Road, in West Hartford, CT 061073 Phone: 860-232-3300.

Need to pick up few gift cards for those very special foodies in your life? (hint-hint) - Look no further than Max Restaurant Group who own and operate several area eateries throughtout New England and South Florida - and the best thing is your recipient can use this gift card at ANY of the Max locations!

Purchase your Max Gift Cards on site or online at  http://bit.ly/2gd1Dak

Next we moved on to Cook Shop Plus a store that I had visited before and was doubly happy to return to. Here's another great place to visit for the foodie and wannabe chefs in your life. This store has every kitchen gadget and some great ideas for personalized gifts for someone you love!

Want more ideas from Cook Shop Plus? Visit them at 977 Farmington Ave, West Hartford, CT 06107
Phone: (860) 461-0667 or online at http://bit.ly/2fDT9gj

I can't begin to tell you how amazing this event is! My most memorable takeaway from the evening was seeing the children truly enjoying all the festivities that were planned for them! From balloon making hats and animals, to the wonderful carolers and local school bands, to the horse drawn carriages taking families up and down the city streets. It truly was a festive time for all!

Next we visited a store I have been hearing such great things about - BK & Company! Really, this beautiful boutique has it going on with frequent fashion shows and shopping specials. So much is packed in this quaint little store from clothing to jewelry to accessories!

And guess which one of these purses is at the top of MY Christmas list???

Stop in to BK & Co.'s new location at 983 Farmington Ave, West Hartford, CT 06107
Phone: (860) 232-6225 or visit them online where you can sign up for B&K's email list to get on the SPECIAL mailing list at http://bit.ly/2fE0lsI

Next we stopped and watched a high energy flash mob "ugly sweater" holiday flash dance performed by members of ConnecticDance.

Our next stop was every woman's dream! Lux Bond & Green Jewelers! You simply must visit this store to see all the beautiful crystal decor they have on display and of course, their beautiful jewelry!

Our group had so much fun trying on rings and enjoying just about everything in this store! For more on Lux Bond Green visit them at 45 LaSalle Road, West Hartford, CT 06107 Phone 860-521-3015 or at their many locations throughout Connecticut (Yay! There's one at Mohegan Sun!) and Massachusetts, or visit them online at http://bit.ly/2fDSImi

Our final stop of the evening was for a nightcap at another of Max Restaurant Group's places, Savoy Pizzeria. and what a way to cap off the night. This fun pizzeria is amazing!

Savoy Pizzeria focuses on the tastes and flavors of Southern Italy's cuisine and specializes in Neapolitan and Craft Pizza. Visit them at 32 LaSalle Road, West Hartford, CT 061073 Phone: 860-969-1000 and online at Savoy Pizzeria - http://bit.ly/2fE04Gd

Here are some of the strollers that we joined for the West Hartford Holiday Stroll!

Here's a condensed list of all the places we visited. Be sure to have your own holiday stroll in West Hartford's downtown shopping district and visit these and other fine places!

And save the first Thursday of December 2017 (December 7th 2017) to experience the magic of the West Hartford Holiday Stroll for yourself!

Disclaimer: I was invited to the West Hartford Holiday Stroll, an event that is free and open to the public, by members of the establishments I visited management and marketing team, however all opinions and views of this event are entirely my own.

Shop and Nosh at the Shoppes at Farmington Valley

Social Media Promotion : Sponsored

The Shoppes at Farmington Valley in Canton CT

Last week I traveled to the charming town of Canton CT after an invite from Bird Social Media to visit the Shoppes at Farmington Valley for a fun round of Shop & Nosh in Connecticut.

The Shoppes at Farmington Valley is quite frankly the MOST beautiful shopping center I've visited in Connecticut.

Throughout the open air shopping center is a myriad of  over-sized lushly filled flower pots, hanging baskets, and window boxes each containing vividly colored flowers. The surrounding grounds are  well manicured and full of greenery. In the background are the Litchfield Hills and Talcott Mountain and a natural babbling spring runs through the center.

The shoppes are worth the drive simply for the the views of the property!

The Shoppes at Farmington Valley

The anchor store is Kohls and there are approximately 45 specialty stores and eateries to visit like (Shop) Loft, J. Crew, White House Black Market, Chico's, Dick's Sporting Goods, Talbots, (Nosh) Feng Asian Bistro, Flatbread Company, and Chipolte.  There are even specialty stores like O'Live A Little (a gourmet specialty food store) and Simply Mac (an Apple partner that sells and services Macs). There's even a Stop & Shop to load up on the family groceries!

Located at 110 Albany Turnpike (Route 44) in Canton, Connecticut just over the Avon/Simsbury line, the Shoppes at Farmington Valley provides convenient free parking, and is just about an hour drive from my home in Branford in the greater New Haven area.

And there's always something going on! Like evening music, store sales, cooking demos, and more!
Check out their event schedule here => theshoppesatfarmingtonvalley.com/eventscalendar

Time to Nosh!

Let's start with the food! We were treated to some of the delicious specialties at Feng's Asian Bistro where we enjoyed the great weather and setting sun on their open air patio while sipping on cocktails and noshing on some great sushi and small bites.

Time to Shop!

After filling up on some great sushi and sashimi as well as small bites at Feng, it was time to ease into some of the great shopping at the Shoppes at Farmington Valley!

Shopping At Loft

I love Loft's casual and feminine brand style - and especially fell in love with that navy and white polka dot top!

I'd mix the patterns and pair it with a small flowered print bottom.

Shopping At J. Crew

There was a great tropical safari theme going on in this corner of J Crew.  The muted earth tones are the perfect transition from summer to fall.

Shopping At Simply Mac

This was my first visit to a Simply Mac store who specialize in all Apple products, and both service and training.

Carrie from Poet in the Pantry tried some new photo lenses made just for iPhone photography.

Shopping At O'Live A Little

Our last stop of the night was at O'Live a Little a unique food boutique specializing in olive oils, vinegars, gift baskets and pottery.

And I loved the beautiful Himalayan salt blocks. Just what I had been searching for!

I loved this trip to the Shoppes at Farmington Valley! The area is so scenic - as is the center itself.

It's the perfect place to meet up with friends for lunch and shopping, or for a quick drink after work and picking up the evening meal. There are so many shoppes to visit and parking is plentiful!

Do visit them soon and have your own Shop & Nosh excursion!
