Cash Mob CT at Sunflower Farm in Orange CT

On Saturday, 9-21-13, you can support a local Connecticut business, and get some great deals!

How?

By participating in September's Cash Mob CT at Sunflower Farm in Orange CT

from 11:00am to 1:00pm

If you haven't participated in one of the local Cash Mob's here in Connecticut, you should! It's a great way to support some local businesses. All you need is  $20.00 and a yearning to shop (yup - that I've got!) and it's a great way to inject some of that economic stimulus into a locally owned business.  Because that's where it will make a REAL difference!

Each month the folks at REX Development, work with Cash Mob CT,  to select a town or city that is part of the 15 municipalities that make up the South Central Regional Council of Governments (SCRCOG) to descend on to be "Cash-Mobbed".  Then, we voters do the rest! Local businesses are nominated - and a final vote is held where the Mob-Winner is selected and announced.

Past winners have been RJ Julia Booksellers in MadisonFlutterby in Guilford, the Bethany Farm Market in BethanySweet Cioccolata in Wallingfordthe Sweet Shoppe in East HavenSomething of Bev's in MilfordBooks and Company in HamdenTotally Awesome Goods in BranfordMetamorphosis in West HavenCT, and Country Paint and Hardware in North Branford, CT.

Just like you, I have to watch my pennies, but I can spend $20.00!

We can ALL do our part to help the local economy - one dollar at a time!

I have to be honest though. I have a wedding to attend on Saturday, but that didn't make a difference! I decided to visit Sunflower Farm a week early to get some pictures and scout some of the bargains that will be available for YOU on September 21st. And, of course, I got to do my own little "mini-mob"!

I got to meet and chat with the wonderful owners, Sabrina and Ernie who will be celebrating the farm market's 30th anniversary next year! What started as a small flower garden, selling cut flowers and Ernie's favorite sunflowers, has since blossomed (couldn't help myself) into a nationally known flower and garden market. I've heard about their famous air-brushed pumpkins and will need to return in October to purchase one.

Meet Ernie and Sabrina, owners of Sunflower Farm
Sabrina is a dynamo! As soon as I introduced myself and explained that I attend many local events, she told me all about the Milford Downtown Farmers' Market and their upcoming First Annual Apple Pie Contest on October 5th. She almost had me convinced that even I could bake a pie for it...but you and I know better than that! You can learn more about the Milford Downtown Farmers Market HERE and some info on the Apple Pie contest HERE.

Ernie told me that his main function at Sunflower Farm was to help people carry their items to their cars, but I later learned he's the one with the marvelous green thumb... responsible for the perennials, dwarf sunflowers, giant sunflowers, annuals, and the most gorgeous mums!

First and foremost...THE MUMS...beautiful, perfect fall mums are available for only $10.00! HUGE ONES! This has to be the best price for this size and quality, anywhere in CT, hands down!

But they're more than just a purveyors of flowers. They also carry a small variety of seasonal fruits and produce, baked goods, and  unscented and natural soap, essential oil soap, and other natural products, most made the old-fashioned way, with no GMOs.

Here's some candid pics of what can be found at the Sunflower Farm!

Pickles, Relishes, Salsas, and More!

Natural soaps and lotions
Sea Salts & Natural and Soy Candles
Locally grown fruits - peaches, apples, and nectarines
Fresh baked goods and organic honey

I was able to purchase some of the cowboy's favorite relish, a cabbage relish called Chow-Chow, some nectarines, and, OF COURSE, a beautiful golden-yellow mum! Sabrina rang me up - and Ernie carted my purchases to the car. My pre-mini-cash-mob was complete!

Please don't miss this wonderful Cash Mob event and visit Sabrina and Ernie at Sunflower Farm! You won't be disappointed!

I finally got to jump back into a local Cash Mob CT experience in neighboring North Branford CT at Country Paint and Hardware!

If you haven't participated in one of our local Cash Mob's here in Connecticut, you should! It's a great way to support some local businesses. All you need is a $20.00 bill and a yearning to shop (yup - that I've got!) and it's a great way to inject some of that economic stimulus into a locally owned business.  Because that's where it will make a REAL difference!

This was my sixth Cash Mob and although I can't do a lot, I can spend $20.00! Just doing my part to save the world - one dollar at a time!

And Country Paint and Hardware is a great place to go!  In fact, today, Julia, one of the knowledgeable service staff at the store, even offered us some delicious popcorn, free, while we shopped, in honor of the Cash Mobbers!

Here are some of the items I spotted in this great little hardware store - still offering great prices - in spite of the big box stores!  Even my husband says that Country Paint and Hardware is his "go-to" spot when working within a 10 mile radius.

Cash Mob CT at Books & Company in Hamden, CT

Today we traveled to the Whitneyville area of Hamden CT to "Cash Mob" a locally owned business, Books & Company.   Cash mobbing is easy-peasy - all it takes is a twenty dollar bill and a desire to shop.  Now that I've got!
Collection of mini Dr. Seuss books.  My faves!
What's more, Cash Mobbing is a PUBLIC SERVICE! (And don't tell my husband otherwise) Each month the folks at REX Development, together with Cash Mob CT,  choose a town or city that is part of the 15 municipalities that make up the South Central Regional Council of Governments (SCRCOG) to descend on to be "Cash-Mobbed".

So not only do you get a little retail therapy - but you also get to stimulate the economy.  And me, I'm just doing my part to save the world, folks.  Yup, one twenty dollar bill at a time!

Past winners have been RJ Julia Booksellers in Madison, Flutterby in Guilford, the Bethany Farm Market in Bethany, Sweet Cioccolata in Wallingford, the Sweet Shoppe in East Haven, CT, and Something of Bev's in Milford, CT.

If you've never been to Books & Company it is definitely worth the trip!  This little store sells high quality used books, with children's books, fiction and non-fiction, great literature, and everything in-between!

What's more, they even support other local artists in the form of jewelry, photography and prints, and MORE!

Here's some pictures of today's visit!

Row after row of books! And fun items for the wee ones!

There's something for everyone at Books & Company to browse through!

Suggested readings - and lots of them!

There's even a little gourmet coffee shop on premise...where your friendly waitstaff will serve up some delicious concoctions...and then, if you're nice, she'll even share them with you!

To add some extra special pizazz to today's Cash Mob CT - there was even live entertainment!

The cowboy purchased a new cookbook!

And then he made me look through it before we left in hopes that I'd cook something up for tonight's dinner!

He must be dreaming or something. Wake up, honey, wake up.

If you have a chance - take a trip to Books & Company in Hamden CT, and try to always support local business!  Remember that for every $20 that is spent at a local retailer, $13.60 will return to the community through taxes and payroll!

And Cash Mob makes a difference! The folks at Books and Company report [we had] "the highest daily sales volume by far in our nearly 18 years in business!"

Cash Mob at Something of Bev's in Milford CT

Each month the folks at REX Development, together with Cash Mob CT,  choose a town or city that is part of the 15 municipalities that make up the South Central Regional Council of Governments (SCRCOG) to descend on to be "Cash-Mobbed"

Cash Mobbing is simple!  Anyone can do it!  All you need is a twenty dollar bill, a destination, and the desire to help support local business!

Did you know that for every $20 that is spent at a local retailer, $13.60 will return to the community through taxes and payroll?  REX Development is doing their part to help local commerce and supports 15 towns and cities in Connecticut.  They need you to do your part too and support your local retailers!

Past winners have been RJ Julia Booksellers in Madison, Flutterby in Guilford, the Bethany Farm Market in Bethany, Sweet Cioccolata in Wallingford, and the Sweet Shoppe in East Haven, CT.

If you're lucky enough to live in one of the 15 municipalities covered by REX - look for a  Cash Mob CT to come to your town soon!

For the month of October, REX Development chose Milford CT, and the voters overwhelmingly selected Something of Bev's!

Something of Bev's  is located on the Boston Post Road in Milford, CT. Although they list themselves as a furniture and decorating store, Something of Bev's is all that...and so much more!

Owner Beverly Dennis has been in the retail business for 24 years! She is a long time Milford resident, moving to Milford, the Small Seaside City with a Big Heart, when she was two!

Bev is the consummate hostess, and her retail business is an extension of herself.  Today she opened up her store to welcome the Cash Mobbers with an assortment of coffee and beverages, and dips and treats to eat.

Bev, an elegant woman with eclectic taste, has a store that reflects her good eye for decorating.  Here you'll find antiques she's acquired from estate sales, and retail items from magazine and trade shows.  That's Bev, below, to the right.

When I mentioned to an old friend (who is also a Milford resident) that I would be at Something of Bev's, she quickly replied "I love that place!"

Here's some of the wonderful items that can be found in the store!
Holiday Tea Towels
Window Decor
These would look so good on my window sill at home!
Roomy Showrooms

In addition, Bev features items made from local craftsman and artists.
Made in Milford Mittens

Locally made Jewelry

Hand Painted Stoneware
Look at these lovely iridescent seashells.
Wouldn't they look beautiful on a seaside themed Christmas tree?

Please take a ride out to visit Bev and say Hi!  You won't be disappointed.
