CT Bom Bom Cocktails for the Holidays

Social Media Promotion: Sponsored

If you'll remember from my 2017 Greenwich Wine + Food Fest recap, we tasted the delicious Connecticut based liqueur, Bom Bom! We LOVED this brand, not just because of its local connection, but because of its rich and creamy flavors that we both enjoyed. So, when they asked if we'd like to sample some for recipe development, we jumped at the opportunity!

Bom Bom Liqueurs

This delicious rum-based mix is the brainchild of Kevin Mowers who developed the original chocolate flavors to woo his sweetheart. The result was Coco Mochanut, a decadent, creamy-good elixir with its blend of chocolate, coconut, coffee spices, and Caribbean rum.

Their next flavor launch was Nilli Vanilli (hee-hee) a vanilla based liqueur, equally delicious and decadent, made with almond milk (so it's dairy free) and vanilla cookie flavorings.

Bom Bom is fabulous straight out of the bottle for a 'shooter' or poured over ice to "sip" - but its unique flavors also allow for a countless amount of recipes and pairings. They have loads on their website but I thought I'd come up with a few of my own in time for the holidays! (check out their recipes at http://www.drinkbombom.com/recipes-2/)

For Thanksgiving I whipped up a cordial glass or two for me and the cowboy to enjoy while we indulged in some serious turkey day shenanigans. But because he doesn't really care for pumpkin pie --- and I do - I decided to tempt him with my version of  a Bom Bom Pumpkin Pie Cordial! It worked! He declared this a winner!

Bom Bom Liqueurs Pumpkin Pie Cordial
Bom Bom Pumpkin Pie Cordial
1 part Nilli Vanilli Bom Bom, 2 parts pumpkin puree, 1 part Liqueur 43, 2 parts almond milk
Garnished with a coated rim of Pumpkin Pie Spice,  cinnamon, and brown sugar
topped with a cinnamon stick stirrer and some candied ginger

Next I decided to do a coconut flavored cocktail - simply because I thought the delicious sweet flavors of this liqueur were made to pair with the nutty sweet flavors of the coconut! And, okay, I'll fess up, because coconut looks so much like snow that it shouts out holiday goodness!

Bom Bom Liqueurs CoCo LoCo
Bom Bom CoCo LoCo
2 parts Nilli Vanilli Bom Bom, 1 part Liqueur 43, 2 parts Coconut Milk
Garnish with a shredded coconut rim

My next two recipes were to bring out some more seasonal holiday flavors - mint! I started with the Nilli Vanilli and made a delicious Peppermint Bom Bom!

Bom Bom Liqueurs Peppermint Bom Bom
Peppermint Bom Bom
2 parts Nilli Vanilli Bom Bom 1 part Liqueur 43,
1 part white creme de menthe,
2 parts Almond Milk,
Garnish with crushed peppermint candy (I used a candy cane) and a Candy Cane Stirrer

Next, I wanted to play with the Bom Bom Coco Mochanaut and make a chocolate and mint version - so I immediately thought ... hey girl...

MINT CHOCOLATE CHIP

Bom Bom Liqueurs Mint Chocolate Chip
Mint Chocolate Chip Bom Bom
2 parts Coco Mochanut, 1 part Liqueur 43,
1 part white creme de menthe liqueur,  2 parts almond milk
Garnish the rim with mini chocolate chips and minty sugar*
*Minty sugar is made with granulated sugar, a tiny drop of peppermint extract, and green food coloring

Cocktail Hint: As you can see, I'm a girl who likes her garnishes as I think they make every cocktail extraordinary! While all the BOM BOM Cocktails would work well sans the extras, show your holiday guests that they're special by elevating your cocktails with a little 'something-something' around the rim! Because so many of the garnishes in this post were a bit heavy (not lighter in weight like plain salt or plain sugar would be) I used a clear corn syrup to coat the rim to help bind the heavier garnishes like the shredded coconut and chocolate chips.

For more on Bom Bom visit their website
at http://www.drinkbombom.com/welcome/

For a listing of where YOU can find Bom Bom locally visit them
at http://www.drinkbombom.com/findus/

Are you a merchant looking to carry Bom Bom? Fill out their form
at http://www.drinkbombom.com/findus/

Thank you Bom Bom for letting me have some fun with your delicious liqueurs! I love them and can't wait to come up with some more combinations!

Enjoy a Bom Bom Holiday
and
Shake your Bom Bom!

Remember to always drink responsibly!

Fall Visit to West Hartford's Delamar Hotel and Artisan Restaurant

Social Media Promotion : Portions Sponsored

After staying a weekend at the beautiful DELAMAR in Greenwich CT I was so excited when I was included in an invite to tour the newly opened DELAMAR West Hartford and dine at the Artisan Restaurant!  Located close to West Hartford's Farmington Avenue business, shopping, and restaurant district, and at the foot of one of my favorite shopping destinations, the Blue Back Square, this hotel is a welcome addition to the neighborhood.

We loved Hartford county's newest boutique hotel with onsite amenities that includes fine dining at the Artisan Restaurant and a full-service luxury spa.

We started our visit in the lobby where we viewed the gorgeous artwork on display from the New Britain Museum of American Art. This ever changing gallery of curated art at the DELAMAR is absolutely amazing. As an added bonus guests of the hotel are invited for a complimentary visit to the museum.

I would be remiss if I didn't mention the incredible chaise sculpture made entirely of quarters that is certainly the centerpiece of the hotel lobby.

We viewed several of the rooms, suites, and junior suites, some with balconies and beautiful views of the surrounding area.

Rooms are light-filled and roomy - perfect for the busy traveler or for a relaxing weekend getaway.

Every room included comfortable seating perfect for unwinding after a business meeting or shopping excursion.

True to boutique hotel standards, the artworks and decor, both in private rooms and public areas, is absolutely spectacular.

The Delamar West Hartford is sure to be a destination for corporate conferences and business meetings, as well as a special event and wedding venue, offering both interior and outdoor facilities and spaces.

After our tour of the hotel we returned to the adjoining Artisan Restaurant for some cocktails and dinner.

The Artisan offers happy hour cocktail specials and has an extensive list of specialty and signature cocktails.

Seating is available in the tavern, the garden (weather permitting) and in the beautiful restaurant. The menu features local and seasonal flavors with New England-inspired cuisine with Chef Frederic Kieffer's own twist and European flair. Chef Kieffer has an on-site garden, where he grows a variety of produce used in his seasonal menus.  Artisan provides all room service and catering for banquets and special events.

We enjoyed some delicious salad - with veggies fresh out of Chef's Garden and some delicious seafood, chops, and steaks. My tuna pictured below was absolutely divine!

And for dessert I went with a creamy luscious custard with a sweet little Madeline cookie on the side!

For my next visit to the Delamar you'll find me at the DELAMAR Spa for one of their wide array of full service treatments - offering everything from manicures and pedicures to custom treatments. There are even bridal services available.

The newly opened DELAMAR Spa offers some of the best and newest treatments straight from Europe. DELAMAR Spa’s primary partners in skincare are Valmont, specializing in cellular skincare from Switzerland, and Biologique Recherche from France. Both companies are long time family-owned businesses where the owners are personally vested in the science, results, and the overall experience.

Learn more about the spa's many treatments at https://delamar.com/west-hartford/spa/treatments/

If you are looking for a place for your next conference or special event, be sure you view the DELAMAR Hotel! It's located 20 minutes from Hartford's Bradley International Airport, and less than two hours from both Boston and New York City.

About the Wall Street Theater

The Wall Street Theater is the first, next-generation performance space in Connecticut showcasing professional music, comedic, dance and stage performances from nationally-recognized names as well as local organizations.  The 700-seat theater, located at 71 Wall Street in the SoNo section of Norwalk, Connecticut, underwent a $10 million-dollar to restore this national historic landmark to its original glory from the early 1900s.  Originally known as The Regent when the location opened in 1915 featuring Vaudeville performances, the theater was also known as The Norwalk and The Roxy (during this time period, the theater was outfitted as a movie theater showing such blockbusters as “Jaws” and “Blues Brothers”).  During its tenure as The Globe in the 90s, the stage featured many up-and-coming performers on tour such as Beastie Boys, Lil’ Kim, Psychedelic Furs, Mighty Might Bosstones, Poison and the Allman Brothers, until it shuttered in the late 90s.  71 Wall Street remained dark until it reopened as The Wall Street Theater in the summer of 2017.

Under the direction of president Suzanne Cahil, artistic director Billy Blanks, Jr., concert director Gene Morell and an advisory board, the theater is planning on offering arts education for families, mentoring programs for youth in the arts, summer camp programming, and offering its space for private rentals, parties and events.

For more information, visit www.wallstreettheater.com.  The theater can also be found on Facebook (@WallStreetTheater) and Instagram (@WallStreetTheater).

The Cook and the Bear in West Hartford

Social Media Promotion: Sponsored

We finally made it! The Cook and The Bear is one restaurant I had been waiting and waiting to have an opportunity to visit. I loved the origins of this great collaboration between Millwright's chef and owner Tyler Anderson and the talented Jamie McDonald of Bear's Smokehouse.

The Cook and The Bear - Table Setting
Made on Premise BBQ sauces
served in cute lil' honey bears

The duo first came together at a farm to table dinner, and then paired up in a series of pop up dinners. The sheer popularity of these dinners demanded a permanent pairing, and hence, the inception of "The Cook and The Bear" resulted in a win win!

Small and cozy and located in the heart of West Hartford's popular Blue Back Square, the Cook and the Bear continues to win over the locals and offers up a casual barbecue menu in a fun setting.

Fresh Pickling Going' On!

Patrons order off a cute clipboard menu that features small bites, salads, sandwiches, snacks, entrees after 5pm, and smoked meats, sides, and combos.

The Cook and the Bear Clipboard Menu
The Cook and the Bear Clipboard Menu

A small but satisfying beer, wine, and cocktail menu is also available that features some fabulous specials!

So many of the cocktails at The Cook and The Bear are made with fresh ingredients. The marinated cherries served in many of the drinks are marinated on premise in bourbon and are incredibly delicious! So good that I thought they were made of chocolate!

Wendy from CT Lifestyles and I shared this fun cocktail found below - the Tom Selleck! It was fruity-juicy, potent, and oh so tasty! And it was served up in a fresh scooped out pineapple.

Another great thing about their cocktail menu is that there are 'mocktails' available of several of their offerings - for those that want the flavor but not the 'punch'!

After sipping on some cocktails we moved on to our appetizers and starters enjoying everything we sampled! A simply MUST ORDER when you visit are the bacon wrapped dates!

The Cook and The Bear Chicken Wings

Believe it or not - after sharing all those starters we found a little bit of room to move on to some smoked meats and proteins. We sampled some delicious thick cut pastrami, chicken, short ribs, and briskets.

The Cook and The Smoked Meats
Chicken-Smoked and Grilled
Smoked Brisket

Did someone say BURGER???

The Cook and The Bear Rodeo Burger
The Rodeo Burger
Wagu Beef - Cheesy Sauce - Onion Rings

And accompanying our proteins we ordered an assortment of sides.

Traditional in their origins, but each had such an interesting twist. Wonderful flavors to add to our meal! Mac and Cheese Gratin, Broccoli Casserole with Rodeo Cheese and Crispy Shallots, Cabbage and Fennel Slaw, and Grits with Fennel Jam.

Hard to pick a favorite, but if I had to it would be that amazing Broccoli Casserole!

Well, our dinner wouldn't be complete without dessert, and The Cook and The Bear rose to the occasion with some seasonal happy endings!

Think of flavors like pumpkin pie, and apple spice, and you've got  just a bit of an inkling of what's in store for you at this incredible new barbecue restaurant!

Be sure you visit The Cook and the Bear soon!
