Internationally Beloved Budweiser Horses to Make Southeastern Connecticut Debut

Join the fun at Foxwoods® Resort Casino, the premier resort destination in the Northeast, where the iconic Anheuser-Busch Clydesdales, in conjunction with Levine Distributing Company, are scheduled to make their public Southeastern Connecticut appearance. 

That's right! The Budweiser Clydesdales will make their debut at the resort’s Grand Pequot Tower at 5:00pm on March 22nd, 2018. 

The one-of-a-kind experience will feature eight magnificent Clydesdale horses participating in a parade across property so Foxwoods guests can experience their grandeur like never before.

The Budweiser Clydesdales, the symbol of quality and tradition for Anheuser-Busch since 1933, will first appear outside of the Grand Pequot Tower at 5 p.m. to be unloaded, harnessed and hitched to the famous red beer wagon for the parade. 

An Anheuser-Busch Ambassador will be onsite to share the upkeep and hitching process that goes into caring for this special breed of horses in detail. Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation Chairman Rodney Butler and Foxwoods Resort Casino President and CEO Felix Rappaport will receive honorary horseshoes commemorating the rare visit.

The Clydesdales’ appearance at Foxwoods is one of hundreds made annually by the traveling hitches, which were first brought to America in the mid-1800s. Horses chosen for the Budweiser Clydesdale hitch must be at least three years of age, stand approximately six feet at the shoulder, weigh an average of 2,000 pounds and have very specific color characteristics. The “Gentle Giants” each consume as much as 20-25 quarts of feed, 40-50 pounds of hay and 30 gallons of water per day.

This event is free and open to the public. The most convenient parking available for this event is the Grand Pequot Self-Park Garage located off Grand Pequot Boulevard. 

In the case of inclement weather, the Budweiser Clydesdales horses will be rigged and remain under the cover at the Rainmaker Casino valet for patron viewing.

There's a sweet new shop at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut - Cake By Franck!  We recently received an invitation to travel up to Foxwoods to sample some of the amazing delicacies and take part in an info session, where we would learn a bit about the cake decorating process, and have our own mini "Cake Wars" decorating contest with some of the media in attendance!

This cute little shop, located directly across from Cedars Restaurant on the Concourse Level of the Great Cedar Hotel, features everything from American classics like pies and muffins, to a super fun Build Your Own Waffle Bar, to finishing tables where treats are frosted to perfection,

That's right! Cake by Franck offers delicious baked goods, handmade pastries, decadent chocolates (uh, YUM!!!) and other tempting delicacies. Foxwoods is featuring Cake by Franck, as not only a gourmet specialty shop, but also a neighborhood bakery for the community.

I was so taken with Chef Franck Iglesias! Despite his impressive background, he is as humble as they come, and so appreciative of the opportunity to bring his creative work to Foxwoods.

Born in Argenteuil, France, just north of Paris, Franck was raised in the food and restaurant business.  While his mother cooked traditional French specialties at home, his father worked as a restaurant chef. So it was no surprise when Franck decided to attend Andorra Culinary School, where he spent two years learning the basics of French cuisine. After graduation, Franck moved to Perpignan to begin a two year program to study and learn the art of pastry making.  

He honed his skills in restaurants throughout France and Spain, working as both chef and pastry chef, until making the bold move to come to America in 2000. He has worked in prestigious restaurants in Connecticut and New York, and Franck’s creative work has been published in Food & Wine, Gourmet, Art Culinaire and Modern Bride Magazines.

In the winter of 2009 a quest for new challenges brought Franck to Foxwoods Resort Casino and the MGM Grand at Foxwoods where was made the Executive Pastry Chef, overseeing a staff of 40 and servicing 34 food outlets. Finally, in 2016, Foxwoods announced the opening of Cake by Franck!

Month-Long Celebration to Include Property-Wide Offers and Events 

“The best is yet to come” never rang so true as Foxwoods® Resort Casino prepares to honor “Ol’ Blue Eyes” throughout the property during the month of December.  Highlighting the festivities will be a full-scale, property-wide birthday party during “Sinatra Weekend,” December 11th - 13th, culminating with a special not-to-miss performance of Sinatra songs by Robert Davi on Saturday, December 12th.

World-renowned pop artist Peter Max is celebrating the life of Frank Sinatra with a series of paintings depicting “the Chairman of the Board.”  Max has created more than 25 works of Sinatra, showing the crooner in various stages of his career surrounded by Max’s bold color schemes.  A mini exhibition of these Sinatra prints will be on display outside the Fox Theater.  This stunning presentation will be on display for a limited time.

When you think of the gaming casinos in CT - your thoughts automatically go to black jack, roulette, bingo, and slot machines.

But there is so much more to do at Foxwoods Casino than gamble! There are comedy and music shows, shopping, family shows like the Cirque Eloize, shopping, restaurant specials, shopping, and fun events like this month's OktoberFest. Oh, and did I mention shopping? In addition to some great high end stores like FolliFollie, there is also an entire outlet, the Tangier Outlets that feature just about every great store there is to feature! (Think Kate Spade, J Crew, Talbotts, Vineyard Vines - and MORE)

This month we headed up over the weekend to Foxwoods Casino and Resort to take part in their OktoberFest Celebration.

In addition to their OktoberFest $20,000 Bingo Tournament, Cedars Restaurant and the Veranda Restaurant are featuring German Food Specials - and there are OktoberFest beer kiosks set up in Cedars Tower.

We started off at Cedars Restaurant (http://www.foxwoods.com/cedars.aspx) where we sampled 8 German beers. Though I'm not a huge beer drinker there were some I loved, like the Paulaner Munchen Oktoberfest Marzen and the Kasteel Rouge - and others that were a bit to strong for me. But I'm a trooper - I sampled a sip of each. Even the sour beers. Yup - there are people that actually develop a taste for smokey, sour, and sweet beers!

We had about 30 minutes before our next stop, so we managed to get in a little shopping. Here's a little beauty I have my eye on over at FolliFollie.

And this is what I mean by there is so much more to do than game at Foxwoods -- after shopping we went bowling. That's right! BOWLING! I traded in my high heels for some bowling shoes and bowled away. And the cowboy even won a prize that night from within our little group for having the most strikes! That's my guy!!

I couldn't believe there was such a beautiful bowling alley right in Foxwoods! It's called the High Rollers Luxury Lanes and Lounge. But, you don't have to be a "high roller" to bowl there. After bowling, we headed back up to Cedar's Restaurant for some great German Food, more German Beer, and some delicious dessert!

All in all it was a fun night to remember! And we can't wait to go back and have some more fun!

Cedars Restaurant

Foxwoods’ signature steakhouse serves up tradition and originality in equally large portions. Pull up a chair and enjoy hearty American classics made from the best beef, poultry and local seafood available. Or try a new take on some old favorites. You’ll find that steak isn’t the only thing they do well! Chef Eric Post of Cedars Restaurant began his culinary career at the Fisherman Restaurant & Lounge in scenic Noank, CT.  He worked there as a Lead Cook for 7 years before joining Foxwoods Resort Casino in December of 1992.

David Burke Prime Restaurant

Cirque Éloize ID at Foxwoods Resort and Casino CT

Social Media Promotion

Last week we had the opportunity to travel up to Foxwoods Resort and Casino in Mashantucket CT to see the amazing Cirque Éloize ID show at Foxwood's Fox Theater.

The show is an incredible blend of hip-hop, break-dancing, contortionists, acrobatics, juggling, cycling, aerialists, and rollerblading, set to the beat of a hip urban soundtrack created by composers Jean-Phi Goncalves (Beast) and Alex McMahon. Yup! All that - in one action-packed show!

Cirque Éloize, a leader in the contemporary circus arts since 1993, has presented thousands of fun-filled and innovative performances around the world. The troupe, consisting of 15-22 performers with international backgrounds, gives a heart-pumping, jaw-dropping, breath-holding, beautifully choreographed show that will dazzle audiences of all ages.

The Cirque Eloize show at Foxwoods Resort Casino is family friendly with something for everyone! The name "Cirque Eloize" translates to "heat lightening" and the performance truly is electrifying!

We were part of a special media event that got to meet the performers and watch them showcase their talents prior to the show! I learned how to juggle!

We learned so much about these performers backgrounds. Our juggling instructor actually has a degree in juggling! We also got to learn some trampoline tricks, and see the backstage setting where it's all about organization and timing!

This show was the highlight of our visit to Foxwoods, which also included dinner at the Red Lantern and a shopping excursion in the new Tangiers Outlets.
